THEME PARKS are always a crowd pleaser for families looking to keep kids occupied on holiday.

But if you don’t fancy staying onsite, there are plenty of accommodation options close to UK theme parks that allow you to explore the surrounding area too.

Whether you’re keen to explore historic Windsor and visit Legoland or combine the beautiful New Forest with a trip to Paulton’s Park, there’s a break to fit the bill.

These lovely holiday cottages and apartments are within easy reach of attractions such as Alton Towers and Chessington World of Adventures.

In the village of Foxt, Staffordshire, Beechview cottage acts as the ideal retreat for exploring the Peak District National Park and is also less than 15 minutes’ drive from Alton Towers theme park.

The cottage sleeps six in three bedrooms, features a fully equipped kitchen diner and a patio for alfresco dining in the autumn sunset.

Alton Towers has over 40 rides and attractions set over 500 acres, with day passes from just £34.

Harrison Barber Cottage, Colnbrook (22 minutes from Thorpe Park)

A 22 minute drive from Thorpe Park is a lovely Victorian cottage in Berkshire which has three bedrooms for six people.

Guests are also a 15-minute drive from Windsor Castle and close to Windsor town centre and London for day trips.

Thorpe Park in Chertsey is home to the SAW, Stealth, Colossus and Nemesis Inferno rollercoasters. Guest can save 30 per cent when they book day tickets in advance, reducing the cost of a ticket from £50 on the day to £35 per person online.

Within very close proximity of Chessington World of Adventures is this top floor apartment in a lovely original home.

A mere 14 minute drive from Paultons Park & Peppa Pig World is this Tudor cottage in the town of Romsey which boasts original oak beams and a cosy fireplace.

Dating back to 1524, the cottage has access to a large garden and is also within easy reach of the New Forest and the shops, restaurants and swimming pool in the local town.
