The highlight will be a six-storey wicker man, which appears to burst into flames as thrillerseekers hurtle past.
It is the first wooden rollercoaster to be built in the UK in 21 years and the second ride to be constructed at the park in Staffordshire since the Smiler crash in 2015.
Alton Towers creator Bradley Wynne explained: “We hope visitors will be blown away by Wicker Man’s breathtaking scale whilst the primal essence of the wooden rollercoaster and astonishing effects will leave them delighted, exhilarated and eager to ride again.”
The ride has been under construction since early 2016 and in an attempt to allay the fears of guests following the Smiler disaster, the theme park last night insisted the ride operating team will undertake hundreds of hours of training between now and the opening of Wicker Man.
